Astral, Men’s Loyak – Reviews

great shoes until you walk in them.

Out of the box I loved them, however they do not promise comfort when walking. These are very good looking shoes that fit nicely on my foot. The problem occured with the walking motion. After a few moments of taking full strides I realized that the outer canvas was bending inwards in such a way that it dug into my big toe. It could work for you, but I’m giving them three stars for two reasons: one star is deducted because of the fact that they hurt my feet and the second star is deducted because this company outdoor play charges a restocking fee even though the entire item was returned in new condition.I leave this review in hopes Astral will improve the shoe and eliminate the problem. If they do then I would consider trying them again, but I would only buy from a vendor that does not charge a restocking fee.

Meets Expectations

Got these near the end of the summer for use while boating and in/near the water. My experience so far:Fit/wearing: The shoes run small. I sent the originals back and then got the next size up. They are designed without a tongue and so are tricky to put on especially at first. Slide your foot all the way in, then use your finger to work the back of the shoe over your heel. This operation gets easier and takes less time within a few wearings as the material relaxes, but it isn’t like most casual shoes.Feel: When wearing the shoes without socks, the textured insole produces a sensation of walking on coarse sand. I found that this takes some getting used to, but in the end is OK. The shoe and sole are lightweight and consistent with the barefoot genre.Water: The shoes take more than 24 hours to dry out at room temperature. So far they have been fully soaked and dried twice with no signs of damage. They protect from pebbles and rocks in the water, but if I were going to spend the day going in and out I would choose a dedicated water shoe that could be replaced at a lower cost.Style: The toe box is wide so the shoes have a kind of planted, vaguely orthotic appearance that again is consistent with the genre. The blue-brown color combination helped sell me on the shoe. However contrast of the brown laces called too much attention so I changed over to the included blue laces.

Mind blown

These things are awesome. It’s cliche to say “I can’t tell I have them on”, but…They look as good in person as in the photos. The footbed is remarkably comfortable and they will be perfect for those situations where flip flops might be the answer, but function or fashion says otherwise. Where we launch our boat requires a walk up and down a hill to park the trailer. It’s a pain in flip flops. I will be jogging it in these. And the ladies will be tossing their room keys when they see me strutting my stuff in these beauties. 10/10

Great minimalist shoes!

Like others have said before… just buy them! This review is long past due. If you like minimalist shoes without paying an arm and a leg like for Vivobarefoot (although they are quality). Other reviewers have taken off points because they make their feet hurt…well duh! these are minimalist shoes and have no super thick padding or arch support. So when you are new to walking more natural your feet will be sore, but will eventually get stronger from really using your foot muscles and soon foot, leg and even back pains while walking start to get better. Please look up all the info about the barefoot/minimalist movement and its benefits.Size is spot on. Ordered a size 10 and they fit just right. It has that nice wide toebox just like Vivobarefoot. The grip is other worldly. I thought they were exaggerating, but these shoes have to be tried to believe them. I use them for the city/urban areas and they just grip in such a nice way without getting stuck/tripping up, if you know what I mean.Oh and they are made of hemp. Look up all the great qualities of hemp for yourselves. You will be amazed. Hemp is many times stronger than steel. It keeps odor down. Also helps the environment by cleaning up toxins from the earth(even radiation) and is super sustainable.Ok so the only down side, which, isn’t even so bad is the opening. It does not have a tongue. It just had an elastic type opening, which, frustrated me at first, but soon it loosens up or you could use a shoe horn.Tip* you want to grab the front part of the opening with one hand and the back, slide your foot in and gently bring up the back over your heel. Something like that. Also the quality is superb. You know when you open a new product and you can just tell its gonna be good. There are no loose threads, everything is clean, the cuts are precise…its just quality.PS the website fake spot has ratings for product reviews like this shoe on amazon. This shoes gets an A! (they rejected my first review of this product for referring that site…I wonder why?In summary try the shoe its a great quality, fits great, has a great grip and has a better price value than other more expensive minimalist brands.Enjoy!

Awesome!

Comfortable and stylish with what I hope is years of durability. I really like these shoes, my feet are flat and wide. Normally a 10.5, but a 10 firs perfect. At $6t I can’t recommend enough. Casual shoes, boat shoes, water shoes, lifting shoes, all roled into one.

Astral, Men’s Loyak – FAQ

In which country are they made?

Just ordered some, the tag says made in Vietnam

I wear a size 10 in oncloud sneakers are these sized around the same?

Astral shoes tend to fit true to size when worn barefoot or with a thin sock. In general, you may want to consider going up 1/2 size to accommodate dry suit booties or a thick sock. Astral shoes are designed to be narrow in the heel and mid foot, with a wide toe box.

How are they as far as durability? Has anyone had any issues after a few months?

I’ve had a pair for almost one year. I have worn them almost every single day. I find other shoes uncomfortable and cumbersome now. There is wear on the sole of the shoe, like were the ball of my foot is to the point that it probably time to get another pair sometime in the next month or two. One of them is starting to wear all the way through. But for being a minimalist shoe, and for wearing them daily for one year straight. I recommend them as far as durability goes. I’m definitely buying another pair to replace these when I have to. I won’t wear any other shoe now. Also, They still look almost new on top. They don’t collect a lot of dirt or whatever. These shoes kick ass, especially for the price.

What size is m08

Men’s size 8.

Can you tell me the thickness of the sloe in millimeters without the insole?

Astral shows that the Foot to Ground Distance is 12mm at the heel and 11mm at the ball of your foot. https://www.astraldesigns.com/shop/footwear/mens/loyak-ms#technical_details

Do these shoes keep out sand? Or are they at least easy to clean sand from if you need to transition from water shoes to dry/clean shoes?

Yes they keep out sand. They have three small holes for water in the front and two in the back. They are very flat and I love that. Not good to wear when it is raining and you hit a puddle but very comfortable.

do the grey shoes come with white and grey laces?

Yes, they come with a set of white and a set of gray.

How do these shoes hold up to salt water? The Keys shore fishing in Florida…

Astral footwear are deigned for both fresh and salt water, so they’re great for any adventure! The best care would be to rinse them afterwards with fresh water, but for a deeper clean, warm soapy water works well. You can also take the insole out and they’ll dry faster.
