Inov-8 Mens Terraultra G 270 Trail Running Shoes – Zero Drop for Long Distance Ultra Marathon Running – Reviews

Losing Inov8’s character

This shoes are too commercial, too ordinary, losing inov8’s professional character. Though it’s for ultramarathon, the cushion is surely excessive, the outsole is too stiff, surely not natural running. You have to run against the force from the shoes themselves. toe space could be more roomy especially on the big toe side, angulated big toe weaken the correspondence muscles. The protruding cushions on the side are quite annoyingly to keep your feet pronated.Inov8 Trailroc 245 is the masterpiece, natural running, flexible outsole, but it’s production was stopped. Perhaps, Inov8 is not anymore a brand for the professional runners, but the amateur who like arch support, thick cushion, big rebounce, making their run like effortless but in fact, making their legs stay weak !!!This pair of shoes is overpriced and very disappointing ….

Grip monsters made for “ultra running”, but good for short runs too

Me:I am not a long distance runner, nor much of a runner at all. I’m an all around fitness enthusiast, who lifts weights, does calisthenics, rides bikes, go for hikes, paddles, rows and sprints… but I don’t run distance.Lately I’ve had the urge to add a little bit of trail running into the mix. I hike a bunch, and often find my mind wandering and dreaming about covering that same terrain at double the speed, bouncing from rock to rock with beauty and grace. I also do so many other things, and I knew I would never become a full time runner or “ultra runner”.I started my search for running shoes at a local running specialty store – I told them I am a forefoot striker, have been exercising in zero drop shoes for 10+ years and don’t like shoes that feel mushy underfoot. The shop proceeded to push mushy, overly cushioned “road to trail” shoes with drops (they called them offsets) ranging from 4mm to 10mm+ I was not impressed with any of them. I was less impressed with the staff there suggesting I could learn to become a heel striker. The closest thing they had to my liking was the Altra Lone Peak, but those shoes are freakishly wide and my feet are actually on the narrow side (I’m a 12B in things like dress shoes and cowboy boots). I left the shop a bit disappointed and feeling as though the shoe I dreamt of didn’t exist. After google searching for “zero drop trail running shoes” I came across review after review for the Inov-8 Terraultra G 270, with it being well praised for a blend of cushion, ground feel, grip and durability. I generally love Inov-8 shoes and have done my cross training in them for years, so I’m shocked I had overlooked them.Amazon had the best price and shipping speed (as they often do), so I placed an order for the “oh my goodness these are impossibly bright” orange and black color. And let me tell you, they are impossibly bright!Sizing:My normal shoe size is 12, but I sized up to 12.5 to account for swelling during runs and hikes. I recommend you do that too, or order the larger size if you tend to be in between sizes. These shoes are roomy, but not cavernous like the Altra Lone Peak. If you have slightly narrow to average width feet, the lacing system will let you dial in a very secure fit. I’m not sure how well they would fit really wide feet since I don’t have those.Feel:Like most Inov-8 shoes, they feel natural and light on the feet, while being comfortably snug. You will not find these to be clumsy, unless you are a hardcore barefoot advocate – in which case, why are you looking at these? Most people should get along fine with their balanced feel, “just right” level of cushion and snug fit.Grip:I’m going to give grip its own section. Simply put, the grip is amazing! My hiking boots have a grippy Vibram outsole that I’ve never felt lacked for traction, but the grip of these Inov-8s is on another level in comparison. Walking and running on the same trails, consisting of hard pack, tree rooted, granite/rocky, dusty and occasionally moist dirt has been eye opening. There are spots of trail that I anticipated a slide, but never got one. Northern California isn’t know for mud, so I can’t comment on that. Uphill, side hill and downhill we’re equally grippy and secure. A+ on gripPerformance:So far, about 45 miles into using these shoes I’m very happy. I will be using them for dry weather hiking and all of my running now. I have also run a couple miles with them on the road and don’t see why they couldn’t be used for that too. This is such a well balanced shoe, and has inspired confidence on my trail runs so far. No blisters either. Conclusion:I could see this shoe being popular with thru-hikers, fast-packers and guys like me who want to be able to transition between walk and run whenever the mood strikes. There are lighter shoes, there are more rugged shoes, there are cushier shoes and there are more minimal shoes – but I can’t think of any shoes as balanced and Goldilocks as these. The only caution I’d have is if you are a very established runner with a history of training in high drop shoes, or if you strongly favor an attribute not found in this shoe – in those instances, stick with what you like. If you are open minded, not super experienced or are somewhat of a blank canvas like me, you owe it to yourself to try them.Did I mention their grip?

The perfect trail running shoe.

I’ve been through alot of different shoes (mostly salomon) running dozens of miles of trails per week training and I finally landed in a pair of these Terraultra g270s. Wow. In my opinion, Inov8 has created the perfect trail shoe here. The fit is spot on, the upper is great, love the flat laces, midsole is the perfect firmness for ultra distances, the graphene rubber is sticky and very durable (I’ve got a few hundred miles on my first pair and only started to see first signs of initial wear on the rubber at just under 200 miles) and the blue/yellow color looks pretty slick I think. My only critique to Inov8 would maybe be offer some more color options.I highly recommend these shoes and I hope Inov8 can keep making these for years to come (hopefully with minimal updating/changes..)

Too narrow for comfort.

I had high hopes for this shoe. There are some good things.Awesome traction and gripLight weightZero dropGood spring and cushionHowever I was very dissapointed on the fit.Mid foot is very narrowHeal cup is too tight and the toe box could use more spread.

Durable and Comfortable.

This is the best trail runner I have encountered to date. Lasts literally twice as long as Altra Lone Peaks. Extremely comfortable, stable and durable. Toe is definitely narrower than Altra’s but not as narrow as Solomon’s generally are. Got the black because the green was super ugly, and it would be nice if it were available in some more muted colors. Expensive, but given longevity, will buy again if available.

Might buy two more pairs

I just recently transitioned into trail running and these shoes just make me want to keep on coming out. The fit is spot on, the cushioning is perfect to protect you from the trail but also keep you connected to the ground and the grip is STICKY, the graphene kept me upright through the rocks, roots and mud I was running over.My only complaint may be that the tongue needs to be worn in a little but only a minor issue.

Perfect all around trail runnings, best of the many Inov-8s I have owned

Zero drop, stiff enough but not too stiff, their most durable yet still grippy sole. Light and enough room in the toe box for a wider foot. Option for a more subdued color even…..Bravo! Im ordering a few more pairs.

Great feel and fit and more comfortable every wear.

The shoes fit me true to size and I have a normal arch and normal width foot. Not wide and not narrow. With a good fox river sock they fit perfect.Feel-simply put. Amazing. Comfortable and long lasting for long runs.Enjoy them.

Inov-8 Mens Terraultra G 270 Trail Running Shoes – Zero Drop for Long Distance Ultra Marathon Running – FAQ

Has anyone worn these after using hoka speedgoat or similar distance trail shoe? hokas are very comfortable, but not durable. how do the g270s hold?

The g270 and g260 are much more durable than any other shoe I’ve used including hokas. They aren’t nearly as soft as hokas though. They are more of a little narrower and much more durable Altra.

I’ve heard these are comfy but they feel hard. Do these shoes get softer then they feel out-of-box?

I would say they stay pretty firm, cushioned but not soft. If you want a softer ride I would look at the new G-300max.

Does these function well on asphalt/concrete?

It all depends on the distance you expect to be running on asphalt/concrete. If you are talking about a mile or two (ish) between trails, sure no problem. If you want to run longer distances, a bespoke road shoe would be better.

Is this shoe suitable for training sprints (track or hills), or is there a better shoe designed for that purpose?

Hello, Thank you for getting in touch, The Terraultra G270 is a highly cushioned zero drop shoe designed for longer distance running on a hard and rocky terrain, You may find our Trailtalon 290 with a 8mm drop is better for hill sprints. I hope this helps, Best wishes

I really loved the trailtalon 250. How do these fit in comparison? Are they as wide in the toebox or as strethcy? Thank you.

Hello, All of our shoes have their own specific width fit graded from a one as the closest up to a five as the widest, the Terraultra G270 is graded as a five and has a wider fit in the toebox. I hope this helps, Best wishes, The inov-8 team
