Merrell Men’s Moab 2 WTPF Hiking Shoe – Reviews

Super Comfy Shoes

This represents my fifth or sixth pair of Merrell Moabs over the years. I’ve had both the waterproof and ventilated varieties, and I often have one pair of each. This, however, is my first pair of Moab 2s. Clearly, I like the Moab line, and one of the main reasons is the straight-out-of-the-box comfort for which Merrell is renown. There is no break-in period with these shoes. You can put them on and know your feet will be happy. There are a few things I would recommend however, based upon prior Moab usage. One of my other reasons for buying these shoes again and again is that they last a long time. The soles are rugged. They do not wear out whether I am hiking mountains or just doing the daily urban hiking of a walking city like New York.Always unlace the shoes to take them off. If you pull your foot out them all the time without unlacing, the cloth at the back of your foot by your achilles tendon will wear away and the padding behind it will be visible and become loose. Also, there is something about the laces that makes them susceptible to becoming untied. If I don’t double knot them, they come untied more so than any shoe I have ever owned. Maybe the laces are coated to repel water or something, but I definitely recommend double knots. Lastly, if you want to keep your waterproof Moabs waterproof, I recommend using a waterproofing product at least one a year. That is a standard recommendation given by manufacturers for most waterproof gear, but I’ve found that my feet stay dry in these shoes if I re-waterproof them annually.Even with the preceding recommendations, I wholly recommend Merrell’s Moab line. If the Moab 2 is as nice a shoe as its predecessors, I will be enjoying them for a long time.

UPDATE – FALLING APART AFTER 2 MONTHS – Not as Wide as the “Old” Moab – same size may be too tight

The old Moab (not the Moab 2) was considerably wider. If you have a wide foot and you like the “old” Moab you may not like the Moab 2.With the exact same sizes of Moab vs. Moab 2, the Moab is wider and more comfortable. My Moab 2s aren’t nearly as comfortable as my Moabs due to the 2 being narrower.YMMVUPDATE,The shoes are falling apart after only two months. They look new but the soles are coming off. These are junk compared to my old Moabs (NOT the 2). Stay away from Merrell. They went down the tubes IMO. VERY DISAPPOINTED. 🙁

Quality shoe with lots of value

I now have owned three pair of these shoes. The first pair was my everyday shoe minus any painting chores! Pairs One and Two are walnut in color. I got compliments on the looks and the fit was excellent. I also used the shoes for mild hiking and near daily long walks. I used them for about 5-6 years. I bought a second pair two years ago and used them as a dressier same shoe. They looked better for certain situations. The second pair, now called Moab Vent2, has a slightly different trim but improved for sure. The first pair has officially been retired. One too many trips to the dog park was causing small gravel to enter the shoe. The circles show a seperated sole and a wear hole on the side. They are now a still comfortable painting shoe. This third pair will be used as the better looking shoe for now. The color is Beluga. It looks like a dark greyed out version of the Walnut shoes pictured. The pictures shown are true to the actual color. All the shoes fit about the same. The designs are slightly different, especially the first pair. But all are well built, comfortable and good looking. I know they are a few dollars more than copies of a similar style. But in my opinion, Merrills are well worth the slightly higher cost.

As I hoped for…and much better…survived Andes Mountain hiking

Out of the box and onto my feet…perfect fit and have broken them in already with 2-3 days walking around. they were actually perfect out of the box. So…now after a 2 week trek in Peru, Bolivia and Chile I can say that these shoes are awesome. they were super comfortable, did not tire out my feet, fit perfectly. they held up on rocky and uneven terrain and held grip on slippery surfaces, wet rock conditions, sand, broken rock climbing, shallow stream beds. They were waterproof for sudden shallow submersions, held up on a really rocky, sharp rock area. These gave some insulation in snow in the Bolivian mountains and gave excellent traction on ice and wet surfaces. Love them! My wife bought similar in women’s style and felt the same. These were inexpensive in comparison to if they didn’t work and my feet suffered…Merrell shoes are absolutely unparalleled in outdoor footwear.

These shoes are like walking with bricks on your feet

These shoes are like walking with bricks on your feet. I would be returning them, but missed the deadline. Very stiff shoe, not much padding. The left toe box doesn’t fit well at all. They feel smaller than the Merrell 13 W pair I have. They are water proof. Not easy on your feet at all. 13000 steps in these shoes is all my feet could take. Very stiff, clunky is the best word I have for them.

Merrell Men’s Moab 2 WTPF Hiking Shoe – FAQ

Being waterproof, do they vent well in hot weather?

If you are looking for a hiking boot that provides a lot of ventilation then I would recommend the Men’s MOAB 2 Ventilator. I decided that waterproof was more important and the MOAB 2 Waterproof promotes MSELECT DRY, which keeps the water out and lets moisture escape. From my personal experience the shoes are very comfortable and are waterproof, but you can expect that your feet will sweat; however it is not any more than when I am wearing canvas tennis shoes in summer. Overall I am really pleased with the MOAB 2 Waterproof.

Do these shoes have a built-in arch

Theres an added zonal arch support My husband has flat feet but these shoes dont bother him there at all

The weight 1.1 pounds, is that 1 shoe or the pair?

Each shoe weighs 1.1 lbs. – a total of 2.2 lbs. for the pair.

Son in law paid $63.87 on Saturday would like another pair at that price

Check out the shoe on Amazon and then check out the prices people are selling them for.

Can you deliver it to China?

No cmie

Would these be good for hiking and then walking in a creek?

These are only waterproof on the outside of the shoe. Water getting inside the shoe soaks the shoe. As to hiking, they are not the lightest shoes for hiking over a mile new. After breakin they are better, but I still think they are on the heavy side for climbing mountain trails. Good luck, with the creek crossing the soles are not the best for wet slippery rocks.

Describe the color ‘bark brown’? looking for a dark brown. photo has a slight purple hue to it.

I Purchased the Beluga color which is gray

Anyine know how i get a lace replacement?

When I bought my shoe on Amazon they also had laces if you wanted them.

Are there 3 models of this? Regular, waterproof and goretex? Or are any of those the same?

I know of 2 models, regular and water proof. I’m not sure about goretex. I’ve purchased 2 pairs of waterproof over last 4 years. Still wear first pair
