New Balance Men’s 577 V1 Hook and Loop Walking Shoe – Reviews
Good shoe but made for low-arch feet
Velcro straps MUCH too short.I knew this from other comments. I bought very over-size to compensate: normally 9EE is fine, I got 10EEEE.These must be designed for people with low flat feet. Or to look good in the store (without feet in them).See picture. On my not-so-fat foot, extra-size shoe, I can only get a half-inch of Velcro “grabbed” or the pressure over my arch will cause tingle pain to my toes. The half-inch is NOT sufficient “grab”; the strap gets loose several times a day. The other (idle) 1.5″ will attract dust and dog-hair (as I know from other Velcro-ed shoes).Support wise, they are some better than 20-buck shoes from the bargain store, but I’m not sure they are all that much better. You can see in the picture that the tongue leather gets a funny wrinkle. Also they squeak, or “squigge”, more than any other casual shoe I’ve worn in years.—EDIT, 3 months later… a seam in the toe is failing. Walking in dewy grass wets my foot. Yes, this is near 90 days of every-day wear, but I have back/leg pain and have not walked much. I expect this life from $20 bargain-store shoes, but for this brand and price I had hoped for more.Click my name (left) and look at my comments on the similar Reebok mens black velcro walker. So far it it fits better, is equally comfortable, and a few bucks lower price.

Are these Leather of Plastic?
I have been wearing New Balance shoes for decades. These were supposed to be size 9.5 and extra wide size 2E. I’ve worn New Balance Hook/Loop shoes before and they were comfortable and well-made.Although these were marked as 9.5 and 2E wide, there is no way they were 9.5 = I COULD NOT GET THEM ON MY FEET!Not only were they too small, the material and workmanship was very, very poor quality. I’m not every sure the material was leather – more like plastic. I am shocked that New Balance would put their name on these shoddy, low quality shoes.I have since reordered an expensive ($110) New Balance hook/loop shoes and I hope the quality of these shoes is up to the usual New Balance standard of quality.

Never go with Alan’s Shoes in Tucson contrary to what my friend experienced!
When purchased I assumed the company was a good one and the product would be just as great as previously purchased New Balance shoes. This pair was an inpurfected or got by quality control, I wore these less than one hour driving and 2 minutes walking. My ankles were hurting and feet very sore that I was happy I took an extra pair of shoes with me. I love my New Balance shoes, they have always made pairs of shoes with plenty of room to put inverts for feet in and wide enough for big feet. I have purchased walking of cross training shoes for well over 15 years and change my shoes every 1 to 3 years. I never thought I would get a pair that would have made feet and ankles hurt so bad and according to a friend didn’t think Alan’s shoes in Tucson would be such a pain to deal with. I would not recommend purchasing from this particular vendor walking into store or online. The sales associate I talked to was abusive

Not Comfortable At All—No Cushion
These shoes are a big disappointment. I wanted a shoe to put on quickly and easily. Thet’s OK though the straps are too short as others have said. I wanted comfort on my frequent dog walks. These shoes fail on that score as they have poor cushioning and the heel produced a blister after 5 minutes. It’s annoying to pay $60 for a shoe worth $20 and then have to add a $20 insole to make them useable. Size is another issue. I ordered my size, 12D. They fit but a bit small. Too loose in the back causing a blister. Too tight up front killing the comfort. They may break in but judging by the other reviews, they will probably fall apart before becoming the quest after soft sneaker of my dreams.UPDATE: Just trying them on they were so bad I decided to return them.I can’t recommend these shoes.

Very comfortable walking shoe with an ample toe box..
I typically walk 6 to 7 miles a day. These shoes are cushioned and very comfortable which is important as I have osteoarthritis in both feet. I originally bought the same size as my regular shoes but found that while that was fine for casual walking, it was slightly too short when walking faster for longer distances. My podiatrist, suggested getting a pair 1/2 size larger. I also needed to replace the insole that came with the shoe with one that gave me more arch support and use a metatarsal pad. That was very easy to do and the shoe fits great. I bought the hook and loop version of the shoe because I also have osteoarthritis in my hands and it’s too painful to tie laces. If you don’t have that problem, I’d recommend the laced version as I think you will be able to control the snugness better. Overall, I’m very happy with this shoe.

A Seriously Poor Shoe
I have been buying New Balance sneakers on Amazon for years, with no problem. So when I saw the raft of negative reviews for this sneaker, I ignored the negativity and bought the shoes.Which was a mistake.Yes, the shoes are too small. They are small enough that if you normally wear a 4E, these shoes will very probably simply not fit onto your foot. (Of course, then you would simply have returned it, which would put you ahead of the someone like me, who tried them outside, and then thought that they were quite bad.)Yes, New Balance seems to have (pretty absurdly) decided that the top loop could cost a penny or so less if they made it shorter. So they made it short enough so that it is difficult to get a good, solid closure.Yes, whoever was in charge of designing how the tongue was attached to the main body of the shoe was either a neophyte shoe designer or was totally drunk on the day he or she worked on this shoe. The fit is SO bad that it is a constant irritant when walking. All of which is made more humorous (in a very sad way) by the fact that this is advertised as a “walking shoe”. Seriously, to say that the workmanship on this shoe is below-grade and below any kind of acceptability is to understate how poorly it is designed and made.Do yourself a favor, and do not make the mistake that I did…, do NOT buy this absolutely shoddy piece of merchandise. It is bad enough that a reputable place like Amazon should be ashamed to carry it! And yes, if I could give it zero stars, I would.Harold

New Balance Men’s 577 V1 Hook and Loop Walking Shoe – FAQ
What does 2 E and 4E mean?
2E is wide and 4E is extra wide
Is footbed removable footbed (insole) in new balance men’s mw577? thanks.
I don’t know why people say they aren’t removable. I’m on my 4th pair of MW577’s, and with every pair I’ve bought, I’ve immediately replaced the insoles. It’s not rocket science…
can new balance sneakers mens mw577 be had in 4E ??
Amazon refers to 4E (which is on the New Balance label on the shoe’s tongue) as Extra Wide, and yes, mw577 comes in 4E. I’m wearing my second pair of 11 4E as I write this. The Amazon size guide can be a tad confusing because you have to scroll down to hidden info at the very bottom to find references to width.
Can these shoes be purchased with a check for a client instead of the tax exempt Business credit card account?
This is not a question for the general public but for the vendor itself.
How durable are these?
Very durable. My husband has a very wide foot and these are the only ones I have been able to find for work and casual. They have been hard to find. He has been wearing these for years.
are these shoes machine washable?
Definitely not machine washable. I use a mild soap and sponge on the exterior. When the interior needs cleaning, I find soaking them in a bucket of soapy water w/a little disinfectant, rinsing, towel drying (can use a smaller towel to absorb some of the interior water, too), and then placing them in the sun (do not machine dry!!) does the trick. Hope this helps. We need a new pair about every 5 – 6 months, as they are used daily by an elderly man.
How do I change shipping address?
On Amazon when you order a product
4e is that wide
4E IS WIDER THAN 3E. How wide is your foot. I have a 6 E foot and couldn’t find a shoe to purchase. Also, I found that shoe sizes from China are not consistent with US sizes Finish
What is the width of this shoe – new balance men’s 577 v1 hook and loop walking shoe?
Width of this shoe at its widest spot is 4 2/4″.
Do these shoes have good Arch support?
The ones I bought have no arch support but I found them to be very comfortable due to the 4E width which gave my wide feet plenty of room. The sad thing about these shoes is that the velcro came loose from the leather strap after a couple of months. A second pair did the same thing. Both pair were outside the warranty period so I was out over $125. It is a shame because I really like them.
