New Balance Men’s Fresh Foam Hierro V6 Trail Running Shoe – Reviews
Great FITTING Shoes! Always a COLOR guessing game with New Balance
The PRO bits — These are great FITTING shoes. It just seems like all the curves and bumps and hollows are in exactly the right place for MY foot. NB’s have always fit well. I’ve worn them since the 70’s. This style is noticeably better fitting than even other New Balance styles with lower price points.- Light Weight. This too is something I think NB has always done well. Again, this pair is just “a little better” (lighter) than their lower priced shoes.- Cushy but resilient soles. The bottom of the sole is appropriately tough. Difficult to puncture with rocks, cactus needles, sticks etc., probably wouldn’t resist a rattlesnake bite. (Doesn’t everyone live on a ranch in the desert?) The inside, foot side of the sole, is the usual, very well molded, NB insert. I’ve never found a good replacement if/when the original NB inserts get worn out. They’re just really good. Somewhere between that outer and inner layer is some kind of magic foam stuff that is plenty cushy but always seems to rebound after wearing. You don’t see the “footprint” inprint in the sole for years. Whatever they put in there, and whatever design the engineers thought up, works great. Great for me, a heavy guy that walks and does ranch chores all day. Nicely reduces joint impact from the feet on up.The CON bits -The color – Imagine a board room full of people with different ideas about what color a product should be. Some want dark. Some want light. Some want wild stripes, dramatic graphics. Some want slouch, some camo. The “poor compromise” is what I’d consider the color of these shoes. One of it’s colors is “Pigment”. Really? You name a pigment “Pigment”? That’s like developing a new fruit and calling it “Fruit”. This shoe is blue, green, brown, tan, purple, gray, in some places all of the above at once. It’s as if they mixed all the left over dye in the vat and came up with some kind of gray-mauve-blue. The heel detail looks like a leaky spray gun applied the color and it splattered. It’s the design, not a real splatter. It’s weird splashes of mud colored pigment applied here and there.Heel Flippy Things – Aft of the heel there’s a flap of rubber that extends rearward about .500 bananas (~12 M&Ms). I imagine(?) this rubber flap is some kind of “Design feature” that dramatically improves your marathon times or something. For me, a guy walking around on a ranch, it tends to grab little bits of rock and stick and bug poo and flip it up into the ankle cuff of my shoes. Bug poo down your socks is an annoyance at worst. But an annoyance none the less.Despite the CONs above, I still rate them 5 stars., if for no other reason, because they simply FIT so well. These shoes were 160 clams, ‘murican. They are notably better fitting then the 100 or the 60 dollar style NB shoes I wear, in exactly the same size. Needless to say, my feet aren’t your feet.

Low profile toe box.
The shoe has a flat toe box, and the mesh is very low above the toes. The mesh itself is made of a somewhat stiff material and tends to get permanent wrinkles. As a result, when the front of the shoe bends, the mesh presses down on the toes. Such wrinkle presses on my right foot’s big toe’s root. It starts to hurt after a while and later becomes acute pain.I ordered a crease shield, and in the meantime, I am trying various improvisations. I may be particularly spoiled or sensitive. Anyway, if I do not have a good solution, I can’t use the shoe. I bought it to enjoy exercise, not suffer pain, and look for plastic improvisations to protect my feet.I am attaching a side-by-side image with the NB 1350 to illustrate the difference in the toe box.

1st NB in 40 years of wearing NB to not fit, toe box to small
Looks like a very good shoe, if your toes are half the thickness of your usual size. I have worn 12 regular for 40 years. I ordered two different versions of NB, the other fit fine, just like previous 40 years. I sent this back and asked for 12.5 size, same issue with larger size, toe box toe small vertically, it presses your toes down, very uncomfotable.

Great shoe idea, poor execution in the build around the height of the toe box
I’m a long time New Balance customer. I always have pairs of NB shoes in my house. I know NB. As for the size, for me purchasing in the usual size did prove to be the right choice in this shoe. The materials in this shoe did not disappoint. I was interested in a NB product that I could wear on dirt trails and in rainy weather. I also wanted to be able to wear them in “normal” everyday conditions as I do with my other running shoes.I decided to buy these after reading many of the reviews here, including those that warned about the shallow toe box causing pain in the toes. I thought maybe those people had feet that just didn’t fit well in the toe box, let’s give it a shot. Everything else about the shoe was appealing (and still is). As it turned out, that shallow toe box problem was real for me as well. After wearing them in my house for a day, the pain was real. I thought about keeping them anyway, hoping that in time they would stretch out or something. And then my better sense got a hold of me and I decided paying this much for a shoe that causes this much pain doesn’t make sense. So I returned the pair.I really hope NB listens to the feedback of many customers and fixes this with version 7. If they do, I will be happy to purchase and give it another shot. I did notice before buying here that the NB website didn’t have any of this model. I did wonder if they realized it was a problem and pulled it down. Not sure about that, just an observation and guess.

Very happy
I’m very happy with this shoe. It fits well and appears to be very well made. It’s supposed to be a trail running shoe, I don’t use it for that. I wanted a shoe for long walks both on city streets and recreation trails. This fits the bill exceptionally well. It gives lots of support but is heavier than a typical running shoe. I wear a 9 1/2 in a dress shoe and that is what I ordered. No complaints here.

Best shoes ever
Amazing!!I have very wide feet and it is hard to find a pair of shoes that fit well and feel great. These shoes are by far the best shoes I have ever owned! They are super light and even more cushioning. Just try them you won’t be disappointed.

New Balance Men’s Fresh Foam Hierro V6 Trail Running Shoe – FAQ
Which one is the 2E width ?
2E=X-WIDE, 4E=XX-WIDE
Is the tip hard? If so, do your toes hurt when you hit the tip?
No, not at all. It is a soft rubber.
Can these shoes be washed in machine and dried?
You can probably get away with washing them in the washing machine. Please don’t put them in the dryer , you might damage the foam. Best if you just leave them outside to air dry.
