Vibram Men’s FiveFingers, V-Run Running Shoe Black Yellow 44 M – Reviews

Vibrams EU site has the CORRECT SIZE CHART!

If you’re using the size chart here or at Vibrams US site your gonna end up with a larger shoe than you should have. (That’s why everyone in the comments say to size down.) I’ve included a screenshot of the proper chart with this review, but I don’t know if Amazon will post it. Use the size chart on Vibrams Europeon site to get the proper size. With that out of the way, on to the shoes themselves! I started running in minimalist shoes while in 2010 while I was still in the Army. Vibrams were banned in uniform so I started with Nike Free 3.0(I can hear the groans from the minimalist purest now, but this served me well as a transitional shoe.), next was the Merrell Trail Glove which did me well in Afghanistan and until I got out in 2012. I then jumped on the Vibram train and over the next few years started what seemed like a “race to the bottom” with the Bikila LS, followed by the KSO EVO and then the Skinners running sock and the FYF sock. After my one and only run in the FYF’s left me grimacing in pain everytime I stepped on the smallest of pebbles, I came to the conclusion that I had gone a little overboard with my minimalist pursuit. (Honestly if your thinking about FYF’s you’re better off going barefoot.)Because I mostly run on paved surfaces I decided to try the V-Run since its designed specifically for that purpose. And I’m glad I did! This shoe has been just what I’m looking for! It is without a doubt my favorite running shoe! Vibram has definitely learned from and evolved the Bikila for the better! I ran 7 1/2 miles yesterday morning and my legs, knees and feet feel and felt great! In fact they have been feeling stronger than ever! These shoes are awesome! They feel so amazing that I’m currently looking into Vibram’s “Casual” selection because I find myself not wanting to put my feet into regular shoes.(Even though my “regular” shoes are minimalist Xeroshoes! Ha!) The V-Runs get 5 stars from me!

Best “shoe” I’ve ever had

For me, there’s nothing to dislike about my Vibram running toe shoes. They are extremely durable, pliable, comfortable, protective, etc. They’ve protected my feet for 12 years from road glass, gravel and other debris, and they’ve made running on the balls of my feet fun again (like when I was a kid). They’ve also saved my lower back from the pounding of regular running shoes that promote running on one’s heels. Each pair lasts me about 18 months, which actually makes them much cheaper than “regular” running shoes. (I run about 750 miles a year.) And Vibram keeps making them fit better and more durable. My only problem, I guess, would be that my second toe is MUCH longer than the rest of my toes, so I would love it if Vibram actually made a pair of their toe shoes for freaks like me. I guess I should mention that after about 6 months, you get some pretty tasty-looking calf muscles. But, perhaps the best part? Women keep asking me about how I like them. 😉 I’ll wear these puppies to my last day!

Glad I tried them!

I only started running a couple years ago, and have had somewhat limited progress. Whether it’s age, diet, weight, or declining athleticism, I have been unable to progress at a rate that makes me happy. I do not feel justified in calling myself a runner yet. I focus primarily on 5k distance wtih occasional attempts at 10k. I only mention this so that you can guage my review with me being a beginner at running. I think I paid $125 for the color I chose, and that does seem high but in line with prices of other running shoes I’ve tried. My main interest in trying them was because of the claims that barefoot running would improve foot strength and possibly limit knee pain that would cause me to take breaks from running for weeks at a time. The first time I wore them was for about a 3 mile walk just to get used to them. My heels were pretty sore after the walk, so I had to ice them and take some ibuprofen. Apparently I am a heel striker. The pain was gone in a day or two, but I was a little concerned that it would only get worse with running in them. I was on vacation at the time, and I had just started back running with a run/walk routine for a little over a month prior to trying the Vibrams. When I got back home, my goal was to try running a mile at most for the first time and walking the last 2. I was amazed to find that I could run the entire 5k and run it at a decent pace for me. I did get the blisters on my achilles like others mentioned, but they were fine after a week of running. The thread on the seam for that back loop does seem to stand a little proud, but like I said it has not been a problem since that first week. I continued wearing only the Vibrams for my every other day 5k running and I progressed from 35 minutes to 28 minutes within 3 weeks, and that is the fastest I’ve ever run that distance. I have not tried 10k yet, but am looking forward to it. I was going to get on her after a few weeks and rave about the shoes being the greatest thing for me, but I’m glad I waited. I was about to give them all the credit since I was running better than ever and improving at a better than expected rate, but I decided to wait a little while longer. I have had a couple runs that seemed like I took a step back, so I have had to rethink what percentage of the credit to give the shoes. I believe that my diet is now somewhat deserving of credit for my improved performance since I know on the days I didn’t do as well I ate things I shouldn’t have. I don’t want to take anything away from the shoes though. I love how my feet feel when running in these shoes especially on rainy days. I used to avoid puddles in my other shoes and socks, but I run straight through them now. I love cold water on my feet, and the water from the puddles drains quickly. There may be a little remaining in the toes, but I don’t run long enough for that to be an issue. Like I mentioned above, I am/wasl a heel striker, but I feel like it’s not as bad in these. I can’t say that my foot lands perfectly, but it feels like I am landing more on my midfoot to front more so and running up hills is so much easier. It just feels like my foot clears the road to get a fuller stride. Downhill is okay as long as it isn’ too steep. I used to purposely land on my heels in other shoes because of the cushioning, but I can’t do that in these. I do not wear socks with mine, and I had to wash them at about the 5 week mark, and that is probably because I didn’t remember to use wipes on my feet that day before wearing them. I have not had any knee pain at all since changing to these, and my ankles seem to be getting stronger/thicker since switching. I have not worn my other shoes since switching to these, and don’t really plan to. I will buy another pair of these in the future, but will probably go with another color for the savings in price.

BUYER BEWARE….

The size chart is not the same for your normal shoe size. Best to find a store that sells these brands first and try on before you buy. I got 10.5 size. They way too big. I had to give them to a friend that wears a size 13 shoe. My 10.5 size fits a size 13 foot perfectly. I have to start over again to try to find me a pair that fits me, and at 120 dollars a pop. These prices go up and down worse than fuel prices do. We call this price goughing and it should be illegal.

Unsure

What is the current return policy? if they don’t fit can i get a free shipping label and send back for full refund? i have prime

You may want to go to a local store and try them pn to get the correct feel for your feet…

I wear a 44 in the canvas and wool vibrams. Should I get the same in these?

I also wear 44s, recently I bought one of the Vibram men’s V running size 43, it fits good, the good thing is you can adjust thru laces, they are great, they also stretch, I run in 43 without socks 8-10 miles at one time, currently I use them as x trainers for my Marathons, they are good, so you have a choice, if your 44 fits snugly, than buy the 44s , for my 44s I use a liner to get good fit, best of luck,Running doc,

Can I use these like water shoes?

I wouldn’t because the material is slightly different than water shoes. The soul will be different as well because they are made to not run in water…your choice though. I used them for walking all around the Florida Keys while on vacation.

Before i purchase my next pair of shoes, how can i ensure that i receive a size 12 e?

I am a size 12, and ordering the size 46 fits fine for me.

Sizes in the drop down menu vs size chart don’t match up. Which is accurate. Just returned some v-trails that were to small. Are they sized the same

Vtrail is training shoes , and V-Run is running shoes category so 1 size drop down only applies with V-Run model of running shoes catagory , i have kmd sport sized 45, which was old model of training catagory and i have v-run sized 44, both fit perfectly
