Xero Shoes Men’s Genesis Sandal – Lightweight, Minimalistic, Travel-Friendly – Reviews
Yes… get them!
I fell in love with these immediately and was a bit bummed I didn’t purchase them sooner. I avoided them due to a heavy ad campaign on Facebook which makes me feel like the product is a gimmick. All the video testimonials and reviewes seemed a bit formulaic and repetitive. Now I know why!The Genesis shoes are absolutely amazing and are actually underpriced in my opinion. They deliver exactly as advertised. I wear a 13.5 wide shoe which puts me in a 14 normally. I measured my foot using their chart from the Xero Shoe website and discovered I was a 12W in the Genesis and I think that is why some people have a bad experience. I would have ordered a normal 13w or 14w and would have thought the shoe sucked. Make sure to get the proper size!I have a wide foot and my feet actually hang over the edge of the shoe a slight bit, as you can see in the picture, but I can’t tell. I can’t feel the edge at all. It feels like my entire foot is covered even when walking over rocks. This isn’t the only voodoo this shoe performs. The Genesis sandals stick to your foot in some weird gravity defying way. Other than people purchasing the wrong size I think a failure to properly adjust the straps is the other reason for some to have a bad experience with the Genesis. I initially cinched them up tight thinking that is the only way to keep them on. I experienced a lot of discomfort between my toes, which is odd because I wear flip flops 95 percent of the time. I loosened them back up to about the factory default and they were too loose. The heel would slid down and/or the toe would fold over and drag. So I tweaked with it for about 30 mins and they are absolutely perfect. They stay floating on my foot at all times and I can barely feel them between my toes.A couple of the concerns was how they would perform when wet and on slopes. I walked around in the pool and they performed great When walking at a slow pace as a water shoe. When I exited the water they drained very quickly and were not slippery. They did not retain water or feel soggy. On slopes whey actually performed fairly well. I found using your bare foot as gauge to be fairly accurate. If your bare foot would stay firm on the terrain then it will stay firm on the shoe. If your bare foot would slip in the terrain then your foot will slip in the sandal. Hopefully that makes sense. These are my new daily shoe for all activities!

Poor quality
These supposedly have a 5,000 mile warranty, but after about 50 miles of walking in them one of the toe straps broke where it attaches to the underside of the sandal, making it unwearable. Very disappointed in this glaring weakness in an otherwise comfortable sandal. Don’t count on them lasting 5,000 miles!

They’re really awesome. I love them
If you’re looking at these shoes, you’re probably like me: you love your minimalist, barefoot style shoes and are wondering if you should take the plunge and go super-minimalist with these. I looked at these shoes for months, debating if I wanted to buy them in this pre-made form or if I should buy one of the Xero kits and make them myself for about half the price. Then I realized that I was never going to actually make my own shoes from one of the kits. So I finally took the plunge and bought these. I have no regrets. They’re exactly what they look like and what I expected them to be. A piece of rubber with some paracord lashings and a couple plastic synching (sp?) clasps. They’re as close to barefoot as possible, they stay on the foot as well as could be expected. I think they look good. They will stand out like a pair of 5 fingers though, so if you’re self conscious maybe just stick with some more normal looking minimalist shoes. In warm weather, though, I do pretty much everything in them. I totally love them.

Thank you for bringing peace back into my home!
Love love love these sandals! I like to walk around the house barefoot, my girlfriend demands I wear slippers. I can’t stand slippers- they’re hot, smelly, sweaty messes. These sandals are an amazing alternative. my feet breathe, my girlfriend is happy I’m not walking around barefoot. Tranquility restored thanks to Xero Shoes!

So far so good
Day 1: I started by switching to these on the last 3/4 of my 3 mile lunch run run. The first 100 yards felt funny, but finally figured it out. I felt muscles firing in my lower leg I never knew I had. so far so good. stay tuned.Day 2 & 3: rested just in case. I felt that slight ache you feel after adding a new exercise to your workout.Day 4: ran 1.5 completely barefoot on the beach. I’m a lifeguard, so my bare feet may already be strong.Day 5: ran the last 2.25 of my 5 mile run in the Xero shoes. Felt better and much quieter than the first time. My feet and lower legs feel good and again a little sore, but in that new workout good way, not in an injury way.Day 6: the balls of my feet felt a little tender after yesterdays run. Today I’m running with a friend, so It’ll be street shoes since my buddy is running for time. I feel slower in the Xero shoes, but haven’t timed myself yet, I could be wrong.

Xero Shoes Men’s Genesis Sandal – Lightweight, Minimalistic, Travel-Friendly – FAQ
Is there a reason these cost so much? Bill of Materials does not seem extensive. Wondering if something is special about them.
Great question! All of our shoes and sandals would use our patented FeelTrue Rubber for durability, grip, and flexibility, which is backed by our 5,000 Mile Sole Guarantee! Likewise, the Genesis would use our Amuri Hardware Kit for additional strapping adjustments, and a paracord lacing for holding onto the feet! If you were looking for a more cost-friendly option, the Genesis is in essence a premade and upgraded version of our Do-It-Yourself FeelTrue Rubber sandal kit available through our website.
Are you going to restock sizes/colors?
Hello there, Thank you so much for your message and your interest in Xero Shoes! Unfortunately we are out of stock of some colors and sizes of the Genesis but we are expecting a restock around next spring! The good news: More products/styles/colors are coming soon. We have new shoes and sandals for men and women that we’ll be introducing throughout the next year. We’ll send a notification via our newsletter through our website when they are available again. Please let us know if you have any other questions! 🙂
I have a narrow foot, will it be an issue to get men’s size?
All of our shoes and sandals are designed to allow the foot to move, bend and flex naturally. This means that there is no arch support, minimal if any cushioning and wider than average forefoot to allow for toe splay (similar to a EE in width). Our main concept is to allow you to move naturally, as if you were barefoot, but with protection! That said, even with the wider than average toe box our shoes our designed to fit the average foot.
Can these be rolled up for quick, easy storage?
Yes they can.
I usually wear an 11.5 what size should I get?
Thank you for reaching out & for your interest in Xero Shoes, we greatly appreciate it! If you often wear a Size 11.5 in closed toe shoes, I recommend considering going with a Size 11 or Size 12 – based off of how much space you’d prefer to have between your toes and the end of the length of the sandal. For example, I wear a Size 12 in just about every closed toe shoe option here at Xero Shoes and when it comes to sandals, I size down to a Size 11 because I prefer to have as little space as possible between my toes and the end of the length of the sandal as possible so that when I’m out hiking in the Rockies, I’m not tripping over my own feet. This is purely my preference and not everyone prefers to have this fit – some people prefer more space between the end of the length of the sandal and their toes. With this in mind, I would recommend keeping this in mind when considering which sizing you’d like to go with. Please let us know if you have any questions, we’re happy to help!
Do these shoes have grounding/earthing capabilities?
Thank you for your question and your interest in Xero Shoes! While our shoes are low to the ground for balance and agility, and flexible enough to let your feet bend and move naturally, our shoes are not electrically conductive. At this time, earthing/grounding shoes are not a design that we are pursuing. We have heard from some customers who made their Xero Shoes conductive by putting a rivet or grommet through the soles, but we do not have any personal experience with this. You are welcome to try this at your own discretion! However, please keep in mind that any alterations to the shoes would not be covered under warranty. Hopefully this helps!
I am a B width. Why is there no regular width sandals available?
All of our shoes and sandals are made wider than average to allow for natural movement. However, with a good pair of kitchen scissors, you can trim the Genesis to match your foot shape and smooth out the edges with sandpaper. Just be sure not to trim off too much at once.
Are these washable?
Hi, For all of our styles, we recommend hand washing them with warm water and a mild soap, then letting them air-dry. 🙂 Please let us know if you have anymore questions.
What is a ladies size 7?
They’re junk. Don’t bother with them.
