Xero Shoes Men’s Xcursion – Zero Drop, Fully Waterproof Hiking Boot – Reviews
They run quite narrow
First, a description of my feet: I have E width with a high instep and high arch, and a fairly narrow heel. My second toe is longest and over a lifetime of wearing “normal” shoes I developed ”Morton’s neuroma” that became so painful it required I wear custom orthotics in all my shoes. A few years ago I decided to try zero drop shoes (Altra) and after going that route I quickly had no more foot pain and was able to completely ditch my orthotics. Altra Lone Peaks have become my go-to shoe for daily walking and hiking, but Altra doesn’t offer anything waterproof which is why I decided to try the Xero Xcursion boots. After reading many reviews—on Amazon and elsewhere—one recurring theme was that these boots tend to run small and that there is a need to size up by a half size for proper fit. To that end I ordered a 9 (I’m normally an 8.5). When the size 9’s arrived they were way too long: there was just too much space between my toes and the front of the boot, and my heel slid around. If I laced them tight there was too much pressure on my instep. The width of the toe box was OK (because the boots were oversized) but I returned the 9’s and ordered 8.5. The 8.5’s fit much better as far as length and the rear area holds my heel securely. However the toe box is just too narrow. I wore them for an entire day, just doing normal activities (no hikes or long walks) and despite that I really wanted these to work, my outer toes make contact with the boot because of the narrow taper in the toe box (which is obvious in the photo).I had such high hopes for these boots because I need a pair of zero drop, waterproof boots for wet season hiking. For the price of these boots I cannot take a chance that they will break in and loosen up, so, like the size 9’s, they were also returned.I will say that they are lightweight and if not for the narrow toe box they would have been comfortable. And I give them style props for not looking ridiculous like so many zero drop offerings from other manufacturers. I really wish Xero made a wide option.

Was happy with this pair of shoes until it became too slippery on smooth surfaces.
I purchased these shoes for my upcoming EBC trek. Great fit, wide toe box, lightweight, and waterproof. I was very happy with it until I wore it to an indoor dining yesterday. The restaurant had wood-grain floor tiles. The flooring was smooth, but not wet or slippery otherwise. But I suddenly started slipping and losing balance. Every step was like walking on ice. I went to the restroom, wiped the sole with tissue paper (thinking that I must have stepped on something greasy), but the sole was clean. The restroom had different tiles and the shoes were slippery there too, even after wiping them clean. So, now I am worried about wearing them to the trek because in the wet/snowy conditions these shoes may completely give up.I give 5 stars for the fit and finish, but I will not be taking them to the upcoming trek. They may be usable for my local hiking in dry weather conditions. I am giving an overall rating of 1 star because safety is a basic requirement — even cheaper shoes have better stability on smooth surfaces compared to these shoes.

Inconsistent manufacturing quality
I’m a size 9.5, and originally ordered a 9.5. The shoes were far too small, however, and my toes were impinging on the left foot. According to their description on Amazon, these shoes are supposed to run true to size. Checking Xero’s website, however, it is a bit more ambiguous. They say the Xcursion runs true to size, which is what I thought I was buying, but the “Xcursion Fusion” runs small. I decided to give it a second chance and bought size 10. This was even worse, with my toes impinging on both feet and the right foot was even worse. While the shoes look great and seem to be made of good materials, their quality control really sucks. For $150, I expected better. My cheap Walmart boots fit far better and have served me well for a long time, at 20% the cost. Im debating whether or not to give Xero a third try. A close friend recommended them, but my experiences so far have been less than encouraging

Great boots but feels a lot cheaper than the previous model..
I’ve owned the previous version which was the Xcursion, and right out of the box I was able to feel the quality drop between them.I was loving the strap adjustment to make sure your heel stays tight in the shoes and they clearly says that the same system were hide behind the first outside layer.Obviously it’s not true. As you can see in the photo, the strap in literally stiched to the boots itself so it cannot move as you tight up your lace.So very small adjustment and yeah I can feel my feet moving in the shoes a bit more than I use to with the previous model.I don’t know if I would recommend since I have the feeling that the company investing a lot into the marketing and saving on the production cost which lead to that kind of problem..

it’s a hiking boot – why so NARROW?!
someone messed up on this design – the boot length is fine, but the xero shoe selling point of a wide toe box is completely missing on this product – compared to my Merrell hiking boot, these xero hiking boot looks super narrow and Merrell makes hiking boots for wide feet (but not zero drop). I’ll give it a try without the insert and with thin socks but these may not work in the wild (vegan as it is).

Xero Shoes Men’s Xcursion – Zero Drop, Fully Waterproof Hiking Boot – FAQ
Made in?
IDK, but after Amazon replacing my first pair, the same shoestring eyelets broke AGAIN. It sucks, otherwise they were great, but can’t be having broken eyelets for the shoestrings. I’m really preferring the Lems brand, at least for now. We’ll see how long Lems last.
Where are they made?
Xero company, Colorado. But shoes made in China.
Would spraying some kind of rubber plasti dip, or bedliner material at the bottom help with wearing out bottom of boot?
I have not tried this on this shoe, but in general unless it is professionally done, the liner would either peel off or wear out. It is best to avoid this shoe, which is neither waterproof nor durable. The only thing going for it is fit — it fits like a glove. My shoe lasted less than 100 miles before the front bottom developed a hole at the ball of the right foot.
Are these boots warm in cold weather? My feet tend to get cold easily and I need something relatively warm.
I do not find them to be very warm, but wearing wool socks helps tremendously.
Is this water proof?
Hello! Thank you for your interest in Xero Shoes! The Men’s Xcursion is fully waterproof including a seam-sealed inner bootie, and a water-resistant membrane behind the outer mesh. Please let us know if you have any more questions!
Do you have a shoe that don’t touch my small toe, I have not seen a shoe that allows my small toe to stretch out.
Hello, Thank you for your message and your interest in Xero Shoes! All of our shoes and sandals are designed to allow the foot to move, bend and flex naturally. This means that there is no arch support, minimal if any cushioning and wider than average forefoot to allow for toe splay. Our main concept is to allow you to move naturally, as if you were barefoot, but with protection! Since everyone prefers a different fit, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that they will work for everyone. That said, we have heard feedback that most of our styles fit up to an EE width comfortably. We do offer free exchanges in the US on our main website if you need to swap them out. If you decide that you want to return them, then we do ask that you pay the shipping back to us. You can find our full policy here: www.xeroshoes.com/return-policy Many of our styles are available on Amazon now as well, which is a great non-obligatory way to try out the shoes if you’re unsure if they’ll work for you. They should offer free exchanges and returns for Prime members. I hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions. 🙂
How protective are these shoes? I live in the desert and I fly paragliders and land in cactus and sharp rocks. Will these hold up like leather boots?
No, I would not use these for landing into sharp rocks or cactus… absolutely not…. the soles are really thin for a reason.. I can see a stout cactus needle penetrating right through the sole and we arent even talking about the mesh upper.
Is this the xcursion fusion version? photos look like it. but no reference to fusion in the description.
Yes, this is the new Xcursion Fusion. 🙂 Please let us know if you have anymore questions.
When are you going to make a workboot: mid-high, zero-drop, wide toe box, sole thick enough for nail protection, full leather upper, rands…?e
Vivo barefoot used make mid high, now they only make a high top version. But I can assure you they are nail proof,I’m on my third pair as I work residential I go through a pair in about 18 months. And still have previous ones on hand for dirty jobs. Size up though as there sizing changed recently. Email them to make the mid again,I did, hopefully they’ll listen!
Will these shoes handle the rocks of the AT in Pennsylvania?
It would be up to you to place your feet with care and intention. I think they are great and my feet love them. It is the opposite of having 4 pounds of cow skin banging about.
