Xero Shoes Women’s Genesis Sandal – Lightweight, Minimalistic, Travel-Friendly – Reviews
Not sure about these for flat feet and plantar fasciitis, but I am trying
Well….I don’t know about these shoes. I have hereditary flat feet and have been suffering from plantar fasciitis for the last 6 months. My supportive shoes were not helping, so I did a lot of reading and decided to try barefoot shoes and daily exercises to strengthen my feet. The exercises have been wonderful. However, the first 15 minute walk I did in these shoes, on grass and paying attention to how I was placing my foot with each stride, basically crippled me. I was in agonizing foot and leg pain for several days afterwards. I know you are supposed to ease into barefoot shoes, which I did, but now I am kind of afraid to wear them again. That said, they are beautifully made, very simple and elegant. I am not giving up just yet! But if you have flat feet or PF, definitely take your time and don’t overdo it.Added Oct 2019:After wearing these for a couple months, my plantar fasciitis worsened and the sandal straps started to fall apart. I would not purchase again. Back to Birkenstocks.

They break easily, rendering them useless.
I loved these shoes when I first got them. It took a bit of time to figure out how to get them adjusted properly, but once I did I wore them absolutely anywhere I could excuse looking like a beach bum. Fast forward about 6 weeks and the toe of one of the sandals caught ever so slightly on a stair as I was walking up — not even enough to make me trip. The rubber grommet that holds the cord in place snapped off, and I found myself on day one of a weekend beach retreat without sandals. I ended up using paracord to “repair” them, but they’re just not the same anymore.Overall, these are nice shoes when they function, but it seems I’m not alone in saying that they likely won’t for long.

Broke in less than 2 months
I tried hard to love this sandal, but I could never get the straps adjusted properly. Finally the other day, while trying to adjust the straps again, the retaining rubber broke off. My $10 Walmart shoes last at least a year. I am not trying to speak against ALL of the Xero products, just this sandal.-from Chicago

What Jesus would’ve worn if he’d had Paracord.
First off, these are super comfortable and that’s why I gave them 4 stars. I live in warm weather year round and cannot stand wearing shoes. I wear Altra running shoes because I like the wide footbed and light feel of the shoe. Lately my feet are screaming at the end of a walk because of how hot my feet get from wearing socks. I bought these for my daily walks thinking that if runners can use them on trails that they would certainly be great for walking a few miles a day. I hoped that the open design would be cooler than wearing running shoes and socks. I wore them in the house for a few days and around town for errands and loved them. I mean, LOVED them. They feel like wearing nothing at all. The paracord straps are soft and were my favorite part of the whole shoe. The fit is so easy to adjust to your foot. The paracord design is genius. The sole of the sandal is like a *thin* rubber tire. They are well designed but very, very thin. Walking over rocks or any bumpy surface is a little painful and if you hit a rock just right under the middle of your foot it is not the best feeling. I experienced a little pain in my heel and my lower back after wearing these the first day – the same pain I get from wearing cheap flip flops. I persevered and wanted these to work. By day two I felt great in them and was very hopeful about a long walk. The last time I wore sandals for an extended period of time – a Spenco model (pretty decent shoe) – I developed a burn on the bottom of my feet where dirt and sand got in and effectively worked like sandpaper wearing off a thin layer of my skin. I didn’t want a repeat of that. I completed a 3 mile walk with no issues for 1.5 miles. Surprisingly there was no dirt or sand that got in, only a small rock that I kicked back out. I noticed that I felt a burning hot sensation on my one heel and the ball of the foot and checked the bottoms of my feet halfway through to make sure there was no wear. Everything looked good but felt bad. By mile 2 I knew I was killing the soles of my feet and when I got home I had gigantic, painful blisters on my heels and the ball of my left foot. The inside of the sandal is textured but not uncomfortable and I assume that the way I walk caused friction that created the blisters. I really wanted to love these but I couldn’t use them for walking several miles a day, which is what I wanted them for. I can’t imagine how anyone runs in these on trails or the road! Maybe I’ll try again in the future once the trauma from my blistered feet wears off. Returned them.**Update. The blisters I got on the bottom of my feet from these were gigantic and really painful. It took a few days to heal from them and I was hobbling around until the blister swelling reduced. It sucked. I returned the sandals in a fit of rage and ordered a bunch of other hiking sandals to try. A pair of Chacos, two pairs of Teva’s. None of them worked for me. I own 2 different pairs of Spenco sandals – one with gel cushioning and one without. Both are sturdy and have good arch support but destroy my back after just a few hours of wearing them. Crappy Target flip flops do the same thing. Wearing no shoes at all feels magical and makes me desperate to recreate that feeling with some sort of sandal. After testing a bunch of sandals I ultimately bought these again and decided that I wouldn’t use them for brisk walking. It’s definitely my gait and walking style that causes friction in certain areas because my running shoes have wear patterns that match my blisters. These sandals work for me because the base of the shoe is just a thin piece of rubber. The Paracord is very soft and adjusts so easily. The strap across the heel is also very soft and not annoying. I wish that I could count on these for longer distances but I’ll settle for using them as my every day flip flop replacement. No back pain and no heel pain after use. Obviously barefoot style shoes don’t work for everyone but for my body they are the only thing that does.

We shall see
These are a size 9…I’ve been doing barefoot/minimalist since 04/01/21; I know like it was a big joke but this is my first minimalist sandal so have to tread carefully…My feet have expanded since as you can visibly see..my toes are near the edge and that’s the way it should be.They fit quite nice but as others have stated, I don’t know how long they’ll last…it’s not so much a design flaw as they’re built to do exactly what they say…perhaps some sort of reinforcement near the toe strap underneath the sole so it doesn’t snap. Here’s hoping it’ll last 500 miles cuz I would walk 500 miles And I would walk 500 more – if I could 🙂

My thoughts after 150 miles
This review would be a 4.5 if it could be. Like all products, it’s not perfect, but I think for me it’s better to err up to 5 than down to a 4.I’ve now run 150 miles in these sandals. Here’s what I love:1. Determining size. I could print off a paper from the Xero Shoes website with the sizes and make sure I bought the correct size.2. Width. I struggle to find footwear wide enough for my feet.3. Light weight and flexible!4. Easy to clean. After trail running, I just hose them down! They dry in a few minutes in the sun.5. They aren’t close-toed shoes. Hooray!6. Breathable! ;)What you should be aware of:1. When wet, like running through puddles, my foot sometimes slips in the sandals-even when the paracord is tight. I think that’s to be expected.2. Adjusting the fit. Even though I watched the Xero Shoes video on getting the paracord to fit correctly, it took a lot of trial and error. I’ve found my happy place now, but it wasn’t as quick and simple as I thought it would be.3. When I trail run, I get stuff in them occasionally. It’s to be expected. I wouldn’t recommend these for scree fields. In summary, I love these, but they aren’t magic. When my current pair wear out…I will buy them again.

Xero Shoes Women’s Genesis Sandal – Lightweight, Minimalistic, Travel-Friendly – FAQ
I am curious if this specific posting is for mens or women’s? In my cart it says women’s, when I select it it then shows men’s. Help! 😊
I ordered these and was confused about the women’s and men’s aswell but went ahead and ordered the “woman’s” because they had the color I wanted and it turns out they are the exact same. So it’s a unisex model or style. Very comfortable when you have them on right. My toe strap busted after so long but easily repearable.
Is this sizing in men’s or women’s? The title says men’s sandal but the description mentions womens sizing.
Hi Blake, Thanks for reaching out to us! The sizing for this sandal is in Men’s sizes. The Women’s sizing that’s mentioned in the description is merely to illustrate how lightweight the sandals are. Please let us know if you have any more questions, we are happy to help! Regards, Kelly Xero Shoes
Do you have size 12?
Hi Nathan, It looks like size 12 is available currently in the Black or Moss colors. Please let us know if you have anymore questions.
I wear a size 7 women, so what size should I get?
If you wear a size 7? Then you should get a size 7.
I asked about size 12 and was told they were in stock, but the order options for all 3 colors only go up to size 11?
Hello, There should be both Moss and Black available in a size 12 and further color options available when you go up higher in size. https://xeroshoes.com/shop/genesis/genesis-men/
Why do these say wide? Xero doesn’t sell a wide
Hello Amy, Thank you for contacting us and for your interest in Xero Shoes! All of our shoes and sandals are designed to allow the foot to move, bend and flex naturally. This means that there is no arch support, minimal if any cushioning and wider than average forefoot (2EE) to allow for toe splay. This may be why our shoes are listed as wide, however we do not carry any specifically wide width shoes. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
